Dr. Weckel graduated from the National University of Health Sciences in Lombard, Ill . Prior to studying at chiropractic school, he attended Bob Jones University, Greenville, SC, where he graduated with a BS degree in Biology. Dr. Weckel has been practicing in the Wilmington and Carolina Beach areas since 1987. Since he began practicing chiropractic, Dr. Weckel has kept up to date with yearly continuing educational classes, ensuring that his patients receive the most comprehensive and advanced chiropractic care. In 2004, Dr. Weckel completed all of the required course work and examinations to become a board eligible chiropractic neurologist, one of only a few in Wilmington. He has also completed postgraduate work becoming certified in spinal trauma, with specific emphasis on dealing with traumatic injuries associated with auto injuries.
Insurances companies keep profiles on how efficiently physicians deliver effective health care to the members of their health care plans. Dr. Weckel has earned the status of Tier 1A with United Health Care plans which is the elite top 10% of providers and holds an "Excellent" status (highest ranking) with Blue Cross/Blue Shield and Cigna plans and has been on the Health Networks Solutions advisory board to BCBSNC for several years. Dr. Weckel has served on the North Carolina Chiropractic Association executive board for six years.
Dr. Weckel receives many referrals from medical doctors. Often, a problem may require a multidisciplinary approach and Dr. Weckel often refers out for help from specialists. Our beach office is located in the Pavilion at the foot of the Snow's Cut bridge on the left side. As of 2019, Dr. Weckel has been in practice going on 36 years. Dr. Weckel practices traditional "hands on" chiropractic manipulation techniques but he frequently uses a more gentle flexion/distraction technique which is a type of spinal decompression therapy. Dr. Weckel is married with three grown children and five grandchildren. He is actively involved at Grace Baptist Church and Wilmington Christian Academy in Wilmington; he enjoys the outdoors and his favorite activities include regular exercising, snow skiing, the safe use of firearms and boating.
Dr. Weckel is a member of the North Carolina Chiropractic Association and is a member of the New Hanover County Law Enforcement Officers Association.
